Food safety: the big picture?
February 19, 2008
Phil Lempert, the Supermarket Guru, has tallied up the recalls and other food safety scares from the last 18 months. It’s an impressive list, and provides plenty of evidence for the need of a complete overhaul of our food safety system.

I find this hilarious given that on the news just yesterday the talking head discussing the beef recall said that people were concerned that this pointed to a problem with the food system in the United States? Oh really? And where in the hell has the press been? Did they miss the E Coli-tainted spinach event awhile back? Or any of the other recalls of bad food products in recent memory?
And the local ABC affiliate decided on Sunday night they didn’t want to show the HSUS video on their 10pm broadcast because it might be too much for viewers to handle (never mind they showed the video the next day at 4pm and Good Morning America showed it at 7am…prime time when kids might be watching).
God forbid we should traumatize the viewer with some knowledge about where their food comes from and how messed up the system is.
This stuff makes me so angry.
Wow.

If we could slaughter one–just one–cow on Jay Leno, I don’t think people who saw it would ever think the same way again.
Why should everyone be kept ignorant?
