the first anniversary!

June 4, 2008

I was on my way to Copenhagen last week on the first anniversary of this blog so I’ve only just remembered it. Here’s the first post from a year ago. Thanks to all of you who have been reading and commenting throughout the year. It’s been fun (and instructive) to hear from you.

I’ll report on the Nordic nutrition meetings in the next post.

  4. hello Ms. Nestle;

    I have greatly enjoyed your books and am excited to have somewhat randomly come across your site.

    I had been “pre-diabetic” for three or so years and taking metformin; then finally (YIKES) diabetic at 57. I had already read Food Politics and some other scientific books on weight and weight-loss…anyway long story short is that I lost 53 lbs (I am 5′ 2″). My A1C is 5.8 with no meds and my BP and choles meds are at minimum doses. I lost a steady 2 lbs/wk and have maintained for over a year w/ no trouble

    I know What To Eat and Food Politics are not “diet” books, but that is the point! Your writing, among others, (yours stays with me the most), seriously inspired me to put together a sensible and realistic program that suited a total “foodie”. As a cons ientious mother of four, I had been practicing your “outer-aisle” strategy for many years and was delighted to see it figured so prominently in WTE.

    I also loved the explanation of CALORIE! You are, indeed, a welcome voice of reason in a cacophony of pseudonutrition. Thank you for your work and your passion for the science and politics of food.

  5. Marion - you’ve done a fantastic job, and you’ve formed those “blog early blog often” neural pathways that keep this really fun and enlightening blog going. Congratulations!
