Is HFCS “Natural?” Court says it’s up to FDA

June 19, 2008

A federal judge in New Jersey rejected a complaint against Snapple that its claim to be “natural” is false because the drinks contain high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and HFCS is no way “natural.” If the FDA won’t decide what “natural” means, we certainly aren’t going to , says the judge. So, FDA, how about it?

  1. Unfortunately, FDA doesn’t do what it should until there’s a major crisis.
But I don’t think it’s all the agency’s fault. It’s been underfunded and undervalued for decades, and now we’re asking it to do even more with less.

  2. What does it matter?

You have said, it is all about calories. And people who consume too many calories are weak-willed, or they are uninformed and ignorant.

  3. What FDA offers is simply an extension of the policies of all the executives in all the companies that seek its approval.

There is a revolving door between the FDA and the Pharmaceutical induistries - rubber stamp approval for a certain product while you are on the FDA, and you will be allowed to sit in a high position with a fabulous salary and many perks the moment you leave the FDA.
