Farmers’ markets: where are they?

June 27, 2008

Thanks to Mark Douglas of Culinate.com for sending me his site’s new interactive map of farmers’ markets in the United States.  I have no idea how his group acquired this information but you can type in your community and up pops a list of local markets with maps to find them.  I tried Ithaca, New York, and up popped the terrific local institution right there on the Cayuga inlet.

  1. Hi Marion,

Thanks for the wonderfully nice note. It was magic — actually, a lot of work went into getting USDA lists and then completely revising, updating, etc. — some of their data was 5+ years old.

We still know a lot is yet to be updated, so we hope to get market goers and market managers input to make it even more accurate and useful. A lot of work, but we think it will be well worth it to have not only market info, but local and seasonal recipes from the markets themselves.

Hopefully, we can start bringing together the places we get our food, with hope we cook and plan our meals.

Hope you are having a great weekend.

    Cheers,

    Mark
