Education campaign: NYC calorie labels
October 7, 2008
The New York City Health Department announces a new education campaign to teach New Yorkers about calories. The slogan: “read ‘em before you eat ‘em.” Here’s one of the ads (below). Access the rest here. Will ads like this help? Can’t wait to find out.

This should not help because this is not accurate. Every body works differently, implying that every body has different needs. Metabolism and family genetics play a large role, but I am considered an adult and I have to eat 2600 kcals per day at a minimum to maintain my weight.

This ad could also be potentially triggering for somebody who is recovering from disordered eating/poor body image. So what if we indulge in a muffin as a snack every now and then? This ad is so narrow-minded…I do not like it..
