What Obama thinks about agriculture

November 6, 2008

Meatpoultry.com has collected President-Elect Obama’s statements about agriculture from his website (you will need to register - it’s free - to read this).  As with much else about Obama’s views, these ideas sound hopeful.  He will need much encouragement to follow through on some of these promises.

  1. Have we ever had a vegetarian president? Off the top of my head I don’t think so…. Now THAT would be a great 1st I look forward to seeing sometime in my lifetime!

  2. I truly hope he can follow through on most of these issues. I try to be hopeful, but I’m guarded about it. But he clearly has a great intellectual depth; I might almost be so optimistic as to hope that he understands these issues even better than his website would imply (we’ll see).

  3. I’m very encouraged, although as Robyn pointed out, Obama gave very little as to what we might expect from him on his web site. Nonetheless, he certainly appears headed in the right direction. A thorough shakeup of both the FDA and the USDA is definitely in order. Profit has been put above consumer safety far too long under President Bush.
